Granny’s Blanket Saved By Clothes Airer

The blanket knitted by Granny is often regarded as a precious family heirloom.

In many families it is handed down to fill a new baby’s cot or cover a chair. Tradition still plays a big part in all our lives. Having symbols of the family is so important to people in all parts of the globe.

The traditional clothes airer claimed a place in our hearts and minds many years ago. Usually made of wood it concertinaed upwards or folded outwards to stand in front of the fire. The clothes airer became one of the family’s most intimate items. Never an item discussed at dinner or parties, it stood in a cupboard until needed.

Experts tell us that today we are facing the biggest crisis in carbon usage in our human history. That is a very big statement to make. We continue to be urged to cut carbon emissions. Airlines ask us to make carbon offset contributions. But especially to use less fossil fuels.

The clothes airer gives us the simplest method of doing that on a daily basis. Every time we load up the airer we do not use the tumble dryer.

Some take the plunge and create a natural drying system. Using the full range of airers they become self sufficient and independent of the electric heater or tumble dryer. Clothes airers not only save energy they also save your clothes. No beating or rotating. No separating into synthetics or cottons or precious woollens. No worries about fading or lint extraction. The body of your clothes remains intact with the normal life preserved.

So you get a double whammy or multiple benefits with the clothes airer. It reduces your carbon footprint, saves electricity, and preserves the life of your clothes and laundry items. I can hear you say “Why didn’t we think of this before!”

The quality airers come in full a range of options, in wall mounting or free standing versions. Even as towel rails or multi strand washing lines.
